Can I choose the target audience when I create a post?

Social Blaze offers a unique “audience targeting’ feature to customize your posts for certain groups on LinkedIn and Facebook. The following detailed guide will help you learn the easy ways to configure audience targeting on such platforms.

1. How to Set Up Audience Targeting on Facebook?

With the Facebook audience targeting feature, you can share your posts with the people who are most likely to care about them. You can pick who views your content based on things like their interests, location, or age. This makes your posts more personal, boosts engagement, and helps you connect with the right audience.

Before we learn the steps to configure audience targeting on Facebook, you must first open general Facebook settings and turn on post Audience Optimization. Check out this detailed Facebook guide for the same.

  • In the Create Post window, go to the “Facebook” tab.
  • Click the “Add Audience Targeting” icon on the post creator.
    • On clicking, a pop-up will appear showing two options – Preferred Audience, and Restricted Audience. Choose your preference for the post.

    • Preferred Audience

The Preferred Audience feature lets you show your post to a certain group of your target audience in their News Feed. However, it doesn’t stop others from seeing the uploaded post on your account. Set audience preferences based:

    • Interest
    • Age
    • Gender
    • Location
    • Languages
    • Relationship Status
    • Educational Status
  • Restricted Audience

The Restricted Audience feature works alongside the Preferred Audience option and blocks certain people from viewing your post. Restricted users won’t be able to see the post even when they browse through your Facebook page.

You can restrict people based on:

  1. Age – You can set a minimum age for viewing the post. If no restriction is needed, keep it as “everyone”
  2. Location – Choose the location where you don’t want to show your post.

2. How To Set Up Audience Targeting on LinkedIn?

Targeting an audience on LinkedIn enables you to reach targeted segments of your audience based on factors like industries, job roles, company sizes, and more. This option is especially significant for business-to-business marketing (B2B), as it helps you customize your posts to engage the right audience. If your target audience is stakeholders and decision-makers, this feature will help you reach them efficiently.

Note: Targeting professionals on LinkedIn is restricted to official company pages.

Here are the steps:

In the Create Post window, switch to the “LinkedIn” tab.

  • Click the “Add Audience Targeting” icon on the post creator.
  • From the list, select the demographic fields you want to target on LinkedIn:
  • Industries
  • Company Size
  • Seniority
  • Functions
  • Languages
  • Location

Here are some considerations for LinkedIn Audience Targeting:

  • Both company pages and targeted demographics need to have equal to or more than 300 followers.
  • If you select more than one demographic, their combined count of followers must be more than or equal to 300.
  • If the count is less than 300 followers, the LinkedIn API will show the count as 0.
  • If your followers fall under 300 after scheduling, the post will still be published without specific targeting.
  • If your followers will reach 300 or more by the time your post is published, it will be targeted as selected.
